For best results, you need skin-friendly and skin-effective ingredients in your toner. Also, always buy alcohol-free toners. Different skin types have different issues and hence, need to look for specific natural ingredients on your ingredient list.

For example, if wrinkles, fine lines, or excess oil are your issues, then look for skin toners with antioxidants. If you have oily skin or if you are struggling with acne, then you need to be careful. Buy ones containing natural ingredients as they are soft on your skin and will not irritate it. glycolic acid, alpha hydroxy acid, or Salicylic acid, a beta-hydroxy acid, are other must-ingredients in your toner's ingredient list because of its potent anti-inflammatory and exfoliating properties especially people with acne-prone skin aka oily skin.

Those with dry skin or sensitive skin should look for ingredients that will hydrate and calm your skin and avoid skin irritation like aloe vera, rose water, witch hazel, and hamamelis Virginiana.

For Those with Normal Skin, look for ingredients like vitamin e, lactic acid, and lavandula Angustifolia aka lavender.

A point to remember and follow-through is to apply a facial cream after using the face toner. It helps to maintain hydration of the skin if at all, you have lost any oil content from your skin after cleansing and toning.
  • Step 1 – Massage your face with a facial cleanser. Keep it for a couple of minutes. Cover your face, neck region, back of the neck and ears, and also your shoulder.
  • Step 2 – Rinse your face with lukewarm water, followed by cold water.
  • Step 3 – Pat dry with a clean cotton cloth.
  • Step 4 – Spray a little skin toner on your face and neck, ensure you spray just enough to full coverage of your face and neck.
  • Step 5 - Use the toner all through your face, sides of the nose, behind the ears, and your shoulder. Avoid eye areas and lips.
  • Step 6 – Wipe your face and neck region with the damp cotton pad. If it is a liquid toner, moisten a cotton ball with water and then squeeze out excess water. Pour your toner on to the cotton ball. It will ensure that the cotton ball does not absorb too much of the product.
  • Step 7 – Wait for a couple of minutes. Let the toner dry completely.
  • Step 8 - Follow up with a moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated and smooth without avoiding stripping essential oils.

Different toners, different applications

  • Toner in a bottle: You should use a cotton pad or cotton ball and pour a little amount on it. Let it get moist and not over-soaked. Start from the center and then go outwards. Do not apply witch hazel toner on the under-eye region and lips.
  • Toner in a spray bottle: Mist it over your face but wipe it off with a cotton ball. The best way is to use aloe vera mist toner to lend additional moisture. Use it again after you have wiped off the impurities with a cotton pad.
  • Toner with spray nozzle: It comes with a misting applicator via which you can apply it directly to the man's skin.
