You do not need to invest hours of your time or half of your earnings in looking great. All you need is to spend some time daily for a basic skincare routine. Here is what you need to do.

What is your skin type?

Identifying your skin type is the first step towards a proper skincare regime. Using products as per your skin type not only helps in solving many of your skin problems, it also ensures you don’t get any adverse reactions. You can find out your skin type with a tissue test. Clean your face and pat dry. Wait for at least an hour or two. Take a tissue and blot it on your face.

  • Normal Skin: If you find no change to the tissue, then you have normal skin.
  • Oily Skin: If the tissue gets oily and your face appears shiny, you have oily skin.
  • Dry Skin: If the tissue remains as it is, but your skin feels rough and flaky, then your skin is dry.
  • Combination Skin: If only the T-zone of your face, that is, the forehead, the nose, and the chin is oily and the remaining area of your face is dry, then you have combination skin.
  • Sensitive Skin: This type of skin is prone to allergies and can easily react to certain products.

Essential Skincare Tips For Your Skin Type

Skin Types

No matter what type of your skin is, a few procedures are standard such as exfoliation and CM or Cleansing-Moisturizing. While everyone should be following the above steps, there are certain precautions and tips each skin type can follow.

1. Normal Skin

Exfoliation is a process to remove dead cells from the skin surface. It helps rejuvenate your skin and keeps it younger. Normal skin requires gentle exfoliation, so use a gentle scrub, preferably one containing essential oils. Also, you need to go for exfoliation only once or twice a week. The idea is to remove dead skin cells and not all the cells!

After exfoliation, use a mild cleanser to clean your skin. Cleansing removes dirt and impurities and lends a smooth and even tone to your skin. Choose a good cleanser meant for normal skin.

Moisturizing the skin is an essential activity for everyone, man or woman, young or old. Those with normal skin can opt for a moisturizer that also has anti-aging properties. It is crucial to apply moisturizer daily. Now, you will be as smooth as silk.

2. Oily Skin

As the skin is prone to breakouts and acne, remember to choose products carefully. Those with oily skin can opt for exfoliation thrice a week. Again it depends on how your skin adjusts to the process. If your skin gets irritated, then exfoliate only twice a week.

Cleansing oily skin is essential as dirt and germs settle more swiftly on oily skin than any other skin type. Use a mild cleanser that will not clear out your natural oils but will help remove impurities from your skin. Most cleansers for oily skin are oil-free, so act well on such skin.

When it comes to moisturizing oily skin, it is a little tricky. Oily skin already looks moisturized enough, but that is just extra oil and not hydration. Hence using a moisturizer is necessary but looks for a non-greasy and mattifying moisturizer.

It will do your skin good if the products contain anti-inflammatory properties as it helps soothe breakouts and acne. An excellent option for this skin type would be me the emerging CBD based Skincare because of its many anti-inflammatory ingredients.

3. Dry Skin

Though exfoliation helps remove dirt and dead skin cells, too much of it can irritate dry skin. Hence, if you have dry skin, use a scrub only once or twice a week. Choose a mild scrub that is not scratchy. Buy exfoliators with fine grains with a lotion texture.

When you buy a cleanser for dry skin, look for a hydrating cleanser, which will help remove impurities but at the same time, will not make the skin dry.

Dry skin needs maximum moisturizing, so invest in the right product that does not contain too many chemicals and has natural ingredients. Such moisturizers help in maintaining the oil balance and will not irritate the skin.  If your skin is too dry, there is no harm in applying moisturizer twice a day.

4. Sensitive Skin

Before buying even products that are labeled ‘sensitive-skin friendly,’ do a skin test if possible. Exfoliation of sensitive skin needs to be done with caution because even a slight irritation can cause redness and itching. The same warning applies to cleansing and moisturizing. Go for products that have natural components and are paraben-free. Thankfully, today, there are many mild products available that contain fewer chemicals. Also, just because you have sensitive skin does not mean you should not use any skincare products at all. All you have to do is test it before you apply.

Lastly, eat well and lead an active lifestyle. As the products you use on your skin are essential, so is the food that you consume.  Include more vegetables and fruits in your diet and reduce junk and oily food. Reduce your sugar intake as well.

Learn to live stress-free and smile often, because your looks are also a reflection of how you feel. So, stay happy,
